Noel Gallagher – live at BBC Radio 2 In Concert – December 7, 2015 – BBC Radio 2

Noel Gallagher this weekend. Live at BBC Radio 2 as part of their In Concert series. Noel Gallagher and High Flying Birds gave an all-too-short set, even at a little over an hour, running through recent material as well as vintage Oasis in a relaxed and intimate setting.

It’s been a busy year for Noel Gallagher. And from the looks of it, there’s no let-up, at least until late Spring. On the road, promoting his latest album, Chasing Yesterday, he’s been enjoying critical raves, sold-out audiences and a career that has taken off to the relief and delight of everyone, not the least, Noel Gallagher himself.

And with the newly established success as a solo artist comes the seeming barrage of interviews. Noel is outspoken, and frankly, the idea of an Oasis reunion, always asked about, doesn’t seem all that important compared to what’s happening now. This is a revitalized Noel Gallagher, and if you’ve seen him in concert during this past year, you’ll know he’s enjoying himself as he hasn’t enjoyed himself before – he’s gone through a transformation of sorts. No doubt, Oasis were one of the most important and influential bands of the 90s, together at a time when music was undergoing a transformation and a reassessment – and even though they got straddled with the strange moniker of Brit-Pop, they were a wildly successful group during a wildly productive time.

But that was then – this new incarnation goes beyond that, further exploring some stellar writing skills and engaging with the audience in a way that didn’t happen before. Oasis was great, but Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds is one step better (IMO).

Should the Summer bring a U.S. appearance of Noel Gallagher, it’s practically a prerequisite to catch him wherever he’s playing. In the meantime, this concert from December 7th is a distant second, but well worth sitting down and turning up.

Seriously.
