We got off to a good start, but thanks to coming down with this dreaded flu, we’ve had a stall. Sadly, being unable to drag myself out of bed, the past 6 days hasn’t helped raise any contributions. But feeling marginally better today, I am trying to keep up the momentum we started earlier and to get back on track. The problem you have with running anything by yourself; whether it’s a business, a website or even freelance, is that when you work for yourself it’s all on you to make it happen. You can’t phone in sick or have someone cover for you – it’s all up to you – bad days, good days; they’re all the same when you run things by yourself. And that’s why Fundraising are so important – it’s support that comes from you that is so needed and appreciated during times like this – helping keep the site alive and the Archive preserving, digitizing and making available the thousands of hours of history, music, interviews, news, events for you on a daily basis – available all the time, so that even if I miss a day or two it will all still be there for you, at your fingertips. Since I started Past Daily, some five years ago, I have put up roughly 10,000 posts featuring material from the Archive – posts that range from a specific day in history to a tribute for a recent passing to a concert which finished earlier that day. 10,000 posts may seem like a lot, but consider that the Archive has over 100,000 hours of broadcasts, news, interviews, history and music still in the process of being preserved and digitized – those aren’t even posted yet, you get the idea I have a lot of work to do. But with your help, it’s getting done – slowly. Your Tax Deductible contributions are making a big difference, and the more I’m able to raise means the more I can get done. Obviously, the goal is to expand and hire a staff and engineers who can get the job done faster – but like all projects of this kind, it takes time – you can’t cut corners, not with history. As you’ve seen with some of the larger Archives, whose photos are now being made available – they represent years of diligent restoration work and care – because we all believe history isn’t something best left in the dark – it needs to be available to study, share and learn from. That’s why I’m here and that’s why I’m asking your support and contribution to Past Daily. Please give what you can today and make a difference.
Till next time . . .
