Gordon Skene – Just the face you want to see, staring at you in the bathroom mirror . . . .but it’s for a good cause.

6 Days left – the contributions are slowly trickling in. Keep it going. I can’t thank those of you enough who have pitched in, either contributing or telling your friends, for your help and kindness. It’s hard; maintaining a website, preserving and restoring thousands of hours of audio every day, while trying to stay on top of the day-to-day stuff, keeping my  other life going as a freelancer – taking care of clients while keeping Past Daily up and running all at the same time. It’s makes for not a lot of sleep – and there have been occasions where I have fallen asleep at the computer, in the middle of writing a post or editing a piece of audio. Makes for interesting mistakes, but its further evidence I am committed to bringing you all the history and information I can. Why is that so important?

Many years ago, when I was a teenager, I would walk into a book or record store, and invariably there was some salesperson at the counter who would look at my potential purchases and go “oh, have you heard . . .” or “oh, have you read . . .?” – and the adventure would start. It was those people, the older ones who had all this knowledge and love of what they were doing, who wanted to impart what they knew and enjoyed on someone like me, who was just starting. And that maybe, I would be inspired and encouraged to look and dig for more – experiment and wander – make my own discoveries. The end result being a better understanding of the world around me and the chance to see things a little differently than I did before. It was that catalyst, that encouragement to make those discoveries that’s stayed with me all my life. All I want to do now is pass it on – that’s what life’s about – discovering, learning and passing it on to the next person – the circle of life and evolution continuing; trying, at least in some small way, to make it better.

Of course, the cynic in all of us says “yeah, but what they were really trying to do was get you to buy more stuff” – maybe. But for some reason, I was never steered in the direction of junk, never steered in the direction of things that were brain-wasters. They sifted through all the garbage so I didn’t have to – now I get to do that, or at least try to.

And that’s where  your help comes in – I can’t do this alone. It takes a lot of time and it’s expensive to keep a site like this up and to continue preserving and restoring the thousands of hours of history left to do. That’s why I’m asking for your support – your contributions, your tax-deductible donations and your telling friends if you like what we’re all about. But more importantly, to continue coming back and discovering more. I’d like to stay here – with your help, I can.  So please consider making that donation over the next 6 days – it means the world to us.

All you have to do is click on the link in the box below and make your Tax Deductible contribution – and grab one of several premiums while you’re at it. Takes a minute, maybe two – lasts a lifetime – or maybe two.

Till next time,

Gordon Skene
