Oasis – in concert at Glastonbury 1995 – BBC Radio 1 –

Oasis to start the week off. In concert at Glastonbury 1995 and one of the highlights of the festival. Considered one of the ‘Big Four” (along with Blur, Pulp and Suede) groups in the Brit-pop movement, Oasis became a worldwide sensation, with record setting album sales and tabloids going into overtime, covering the wretched excess and knock-down/drag-outs between the Gallagher Brothers; Noel and Liam.

During their, albeit stormy period together, Oasis were responsible for eight number-one singles and eight number one albums. With a run that lasted from 1991 until 2009, selling some 70 million records worldwide. They were written up in the Guinness Book of World Records as The Longest Top-ten Chart Run By A Group in 2010 and The Most Successful Act Between 1995 and 2005. They also received every known award and accolade from Grammy Nominations to NME awards. It was a remarkable run.

But tensions between the brothers got to the breaking point, and in August 2009 a backstage altercation led to Noel announcing his departure from the band. Liam would continue with the remaining members of Oasis and reform as Beady Eye. While Noel formed his band, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, to continued acclaim. There have been steady rumors and hints of a possible Oasis reunion over the past few years, but every time it appears to be getting close, it falls apart or is denied. So it’s safe to say a reunion is not in the cards anytime soon.

This concert, from Glastonbury comes around the release of one of their biggest selling albums (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? and much of the material is culled from that album.

One of the great musical contributions, who put an indelible stamp on the 1990s and who influenced a myriad number of bands over the years.

Crank this one up and enjoy.
