Ty Segall – Live At The Paradiso, Amsterdam – May 21, 2011 – VPRO-3VOOR12-FM

Ty Segall tonight. For those of you not quite up for the soothing strains of Robert Schumann via our Mid-Week Concert, here is a little something from the opposite side of the spectrum in the form of Ty Segall, recorded in concert at the legendary Paradiso in Amsterdam on May 21, 2011 and captured for posterity by the venerable VPRO/3VOOR-12FM in The Netherlands.

Strange, having to go some 7,000 miles to Amsterdam to pick up on a band who makes Long Beach California their hometown. But such is the international nature of Rock and live concerts.

Ty Segall is very prolific – in the 9 years since he got started, he has released over 10 albums and has come to epitomize the mind-melting hybrid of Garage Rock and Psychedelia with healthy dollops of noise rock and lo-fi added to the mix. All by way of saying Ty Segall has been getting around, and is in fact kicking off a big tour starting tomorrow (February 2) at none other than L.A.’s very own Teragram Ballroom for a three night stay, before embarking on a tour that takes him all over the U.S. and eventually lands him in Spain for the Ebrovision Festival in August of this year.

For those of you not familiar with Ty Segall – you can start with just about any of his albums, or you can hit the play button on this 2011 concert and get reasonably immersed for a little under an hour. Either way, he’s worth checking out – and visiting over and over. And on top of that, there’s a new album out – his eleventh at last count. His latest is a second self-titled album that’s been getting a lot of positive press and airplay via some of the public stations around the country.

Aside from getting his records, you really need to check him out in concert. It only adds to the whole picture.

God knows, we all need our minds blown right about now.
