Trentemøller – in concert at Paradise Rock Club – March 23, 2017 – Sveriges Radio –
Trentemøller is a Danish multi-instrumentalist and producer currently living in Copenhagen. He originally got started as a musician/producer for a number of Danish Indie bands in the 1990s before turning his attention to Electronic music. In 2006 he released a series of Electronic eps before working on his debut album. From that point, he assembled a band to play live, and toured Europe and the U.S., creating an enthusiastic reception and a fanbase.
His breakthrough came during the 2011 Coachella Festival, where he stunned the audience and became, as several critics put it, “The Toast of The Festival”. Since that time he’s released four albums as well as worked on soundtracks, remixes and a full plate of other projects.
This concert, part of the Eurosonic Festival just last month, gives some clue as to what Trentemøller is up to these days. A vast expanse of musical landscape which brings to mind some of the experimental aspects of 70s Prog-rock, along with ethereal vocals and an engaging presentation that seemed too short at 90 minutes. It’s a tour-de-force and gives every good indication Trentemøller is a musician with a finely tuned sense of what to say and how to go about saying it.
And the audience happily went along for the ride and, like me, didn’t want to see it end. Clearly, a sign he’s doing something right – when 90 minutes flies by in seeming seconds, you know he’s on to something.
I am hoping he makes it back to the States this year – looking at his tour schedule, it’s pretty hectic until the end of July, with stops everywhere between Murcia Spain and Beijing China.
