L.A.’s own Warpaint, recorded in concert at the recent BBC 6 Music Festival this past March and another standout performance from a band who’s been doing it the past 13 years. From their debut ep in 2007 to their latest album Heads Up issued last September, Warpaint have been the recipient of much good press and a reputation that extends from L.A. to the whole of Europe and to the Far East, including Australia.
The past few years have seen the band splitting time between side-projects and touring. But the band of dream-pop psych-meisters are by no means breaking up or even taking a hiatus. Since their initial nomination for the BBC’s Sound Of 2011, the band have enjoyed considerable success and have matched it by maintaining a pretty heavy schedule of touring.
This is shaping up to being a busy year for the band. In addition to this performance in Glasgow in March, Warpaint were performing on home turf in the form of Coachella in April of this year. They are also booked for a three-night stay at The Hollywood Bowl in October, coming during the last leg of a tour which has taken them from Atlanta to Zagreb between now and the end of October.
It’s hard to imagine many people not having heard Warpaint or heard about them. You certainly have more than enough chances to catch them and see them in concert for yourself – and I would urge you to do that, in addition to picking up their latest as well as grabbing the previous two while you’re at it, if you haven’t already.
But in the event you’re just getting around to hearing about them, or reading about them, check this show out and take it from there. Good band, great sound, astounding ensemble – doesn’t get much better than that.
Oh, and crank this one up too – Warpaint plays best loud. Trust me.
