Eruca Sativa – in session at Conciertos de Radio 3, Madrid – April 10, 2018 – RNE Radio 3 –
Continuing Rock Without Borders week with a session by Argentina Alternative aggregate Eruca Sativa, recorded for Conciertos de Radio 3 in Madrid on April 10th of this year.
Together since 2007, Eruca Sativa have gotten a pretty solid word of mouth in the Underground/Indie/Alternative Latin music community. Their single Nada Salvaje was nominated Rock Song of The Year at the 2016 Latin Grammys, and their latest album Barro y Fauna (their fifth album), was recorded in Los Angeles. They have won numerous awards and accolades in their native Argentina, including Best Video, Best Rock Album and Best Production at the prestigious 2017 Gardel Awards.
So how come you haven’t heard of them?
I’m not going to venture to guess, but I would imagine they have a solid reputation with Underground Latin music programmers and the Indie/Alternative latin music community here in the U.S. But as for the mainstream-English speaking audience, well . . .your loss. Seriously. I can’t tell you how many great Latin bands there are and have been for a good long time that a lot of people have never heard of. This is the part about broadening your horizons that’s crucial if you’re going to consider yourself a member of Planet Earth. I found Eruca Sativa a nicely placed kick in the ass and would love to see them in concert. A three piece, consisting of Lula Bertoldi (guitar), Brenda Martin (bass) and Gabriel Pedernera (drums), they’ve been sampling a number of genres without being pigeon-holed into one. With the release of Barro y Fauna, they launched an extensive tour throughout the country, as well as being invited to play in Cuba for the first time during the Patria Grande Festival days before the release of the album. They also participated in the first Mexican edition of the Cosquín Rock festival, returning to that country in February of last year. The touring continues this year with visits to Mexico, Chile , Colombia, Spain and Uruguay. This session is part of the Spanish leg of the tour.
