Dreyma – Live at La Radio Encendida 2018 – March 18, 2018 – RNE Radio 3, Madrid –

Ending up the week with another look at what’s going on elsewhere in the world. This time its via La Radio Encendida 2018 festival from Radio Nacional España’s Radio 3; a public radio network that has done an amazing job of exposing new talent and promoting homegrown bands and artists. It used to be just within the borders of Spain, but now with streaming – the whole world now gets to listen in and get excited.

Dreyma are essentially a duo (adding a drummer on live gigs). Mel and Cris, as the story goes, are old friends who decided to put their own music together. And (also as the story goes), they hammered out the whole thing over massive infusions of wine and pizza. That was a little over a year ago. With their first ep issued last year and a lot of positive press to go along with it, their musical adventure is starting to take shape. Since last year, they have been gigging pretty consistently and doing a series of festivals around Spain. So far it’s the high energy thrill of being the new kids on the block, and the extra added bonus of touring and gathering a fan base is a huge plus for them. It will be very interesting to hear what they come up with by this time next year. So far, so good and they have much to commend them. Their take on Dreampop mixed in with Surf is quite engaging. I’ve noticed a number of bands in Spain citing Surf as a huge influence in their playing – probably more than a lot of other places in the world. I wonder why that is – of course, I’m not complaining, but it is fascinating that so many bands are taking up Surf as a rallying point.

Anyway, Dreyma are good and are a work in progress. They are enjoyable and I have them on the radar as a band to watch in the coming months. You might want to as well.

Give a listen, just because it’s the weekend.
