Remains Of Morpheus – live at La Scène Michelet Nantes France, October 9th 2019.
Been running across several very interesting French bands lately; all coming from the genre of Post-Rock/Prog-Metal. Remains Of Morpheus are the latest in this wave – recorded only a few weeks ago, it’s fresh enough to give you an idea something is going on in the Streets of Paris (or this case, Nantes) that may demand further examination.

In 2017, the young trio Remains of Morpheus, composed of Titouan Grignoux on bass, Tom Blaineau on guitar, and Quentin Lefèvre on drums, emerged.
The three musicians gather their common influences, which draw their sources in progressive music (Porcupine Tree), experimental metal (Dub Trio), post rock (Russian Circles), but also in classical music (Steve Reich) and jazz (Mahavishnu Orchestra), and then begin a process of creation and sound research.
Very quickly, the three members concentrate on the work of composition as well as all the diegesis that they wish to transmit through their works, to produce a universe both atmospheric and transcendent, which oscillates between the post-rock and the post-metal progressive.
The band is now preparing to release their first album “XXI Parallels” recorded in Paris during an intense studio session of one week. Titouan, Tom and Quentin wanted to record their creations together, in the same room, capturing the energy and accomplice that emerges from their live concerts. Most titles have not been cut, and their first studio work is an opportunity for the group to share on a new medium its amazing musical language.
I like that they consider Steve Reich classical – goes to show you how wide the playing field is in Europe. Their debut album XXI Parallels is available via their bandcamp page – so check them out.
