Dear Patrons and Friends Of Past Daily:
It’s the start of a new year and a new decade. Where the last one went is anybody’s guess, but if you’re a follower of the posts on Past Daily you have a pretty good idea whatever happened isn’t all that new.
It’s appeal time again – time to consider being a supporter of Past Daily if you aren’t already or, if you can, increasing your contribution a bit. We’ve had a lot of expenses this past year – a new host with more room to grow has only added to that. Plus, we’ve lost a few of you along the way. I can understand that. Times are tight and it’s natural to let someone take care of the heavy lifting for a bit. But your support is crucial and I’m not asking for very much. When we were doing Fundraisers I would ask for $20.00 to keep everything going. Now, with Patreon you can make it a buck a month and it still comes out to a lot less for a whole year – plus you get exclusive downloads and I will be putting together a newsletter for Patrons in the coming weeks, so you can follow progress and also welcome suggestions and ideas of your own. I’m here because of you and if there’s something you want to know about, and it has to do with history, I will be happy to post it.
More than that though, I need to get the word out – as you’ve no doubt noticed, I’ve been cross-posting a lot these past few months – that will only increase as time goes on. The more people who find out about Past Daily and what we have, the more of you will bookmark us and visit at least once a day (I post at least three times a day, so check back often!).
Because of the increases in monthly fees and the continuing issue with vault space rent, I have had to increase the number of ads on the site. I know a lot of you hate them – I’m not crazy about most of them myself. But they are a necessary evil and I need to run them, even if they do offer a tiny fraction of what the site needs to stay afloat – like I’ve always said – every penny counts and every penny is used. In the best of all worlds, if Patrons alone could support the site and all that is needed, I would drop the ads and the periodic appeal in a heartbeat. But like I said, they are a necessary evil at the moment and so I beg your indulgence to step around them – however clicking on one or two every now and then would help greatly ;).
Lastly – in addition to my appeal, I want to extend my gratitude and endless appreciation to all of you who have become patrons over the last several months. Your help and encouragement have worked wonders and I am beyond grateful for all your support. I hope to continue to offer the best and rarest from my archive for you to enjoy, study, be reminded and point to. It’s what I’m here for.
And now a word or two from me, myself.
A big hug and grateful thanks,
Gordon Skene – Past Daily
