BBC 6 Music Festival – Day 3 – February 14, 2016 – BBC 6 Music –

A snippet from Day 3 of the 2016 BBC Music Festival in Bristol, broadcast live on February 14, 2016. It occurred to me that Summer 2020 is almost over and there . been no festivals this year, owing to a “certain” pandemic that is making everyone’s life miserable, collapsing businesses and threatening to spell doom for live music anytime soon.

And because Summer, especially in Europe, has meant a veritable feast of music from all genres, attracting people from all over the world to dive head first into a soupçon of music, performers and general great vibes, the fact that putting on live music almost anywhere is facing an uncertain future is cause for alarm, worry and downright sadness.

And this year the brakes were put on quickly and loudly and most bands who had been book to play one of more festivals this year had the proverbial carpet pulled out from under them and are having to consider alternatives to their art, their careers and their bank accounts.

But rather than focus on the true uncertainty of the situation, I thought I would dig through some festivals in previous years and post a few as a way of either catching you up on what you missed, or become filled with a wistful nostalgia over Festival from times gone by.

A lot of people have asked if we’re ever going to be able to go to a festival again – packed closely together, passing bottles of water or sitting blissfully passed out somewhere near an exit or at the side of the stage. Think it will ever go back to the way it was, or has this signaled a change we hadn’t been expecting and a change in how we live our lives, and either this bodes very very well for a future where live music will be a thing of the past, or musicians, managers, and sound technicians will be actively looking for alternatives – or this bodes very very well because we have thought of clever ways to avoid crowds while trying to keep the bands, venues and spirit alive.

In the meantime, here is a three hour excerpt from Day 3 of the BBC 6 music Festival in Bristol featuring Kurt Vile, the Foals, Julia Holter and a bunch of other acts recorded throughout the day as it was happening on February 14, 2016.
