I had the feeling the 90s were going to be a special decade when I first heard Trashcan Sinatras’ Obscurity Knocks. You know something special is happening from the first 20 seconds – doesn’t take long, especially when all the magic is there and it comes flying out of the speakers and hits you at once.
I knew we were heading in a great direction and I wasn’t wrong. Trashcan Sinatras were the tip of the 90s and it amply proved there was a lot of talent to be had and it was fairly bursting at the seams to come out.
Luckily for everyone they’re still around, still gigging and still recording.
In the odd event you’re new to them – or are reading about them here for the first time – a few words from the band themselves via their website:
“Got together, got drunk, tried to make a decent sound, got a record deal, obsessively made “Cake”, toured with a bad attitude, came to some conclusions, confidently made “I’ve Seen Everything”, toured with a better attitude, wondered how to make another album, desperately made “A Happy Pocket”, went bust, worried, got drunk, got angry, got over it, cautiously made “Weightlifting”, toured in a great mood, happily made “In The Music”, toured (a bunch), wonkily made “Wild Pendulum”, toured (once), came to some conclusions, stripped it all right back to basics…and that’s where we find ourselves today!”

In the meantime, hit the play button on this one and have a listen to some more recent material from the past few years. Still a much loved band with a lot to say and are still saying it.
Fingers crossed, once this pandemic is over they’ll be back on the road again. Another reason to celebrate.
