Squid – in session for Marc Riley – BBC 6 Music – May 13, 2020 – BBC Radio 6 –

Squid tonight – in session for Marc Riley at BBC 6 Music and recorded in May of 2020, just about the time everything locked down or got ready to.

Squid is from Brighton, England. They are currently based in London. They released their debut EP on Speedy Wunderground, Town Centre, in 2019 and have since released four singles on Warp Records.Their debut full-length album, Bright Green Field, was released by Warp Records on May 7th of this year. They have cited Neu! and This Heat as influences. In 2019, they released their second EP, titled Town Centre, to critical acclaim. Town Centre was produced by Dan Carey and released on Speedy Wunderground. In March 2020, Squid signed to Warp Records and have released five singles with them as of April 2021 They were planning on touring Europe throughout 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

As far as I can tell, this is the last session they did before packing it all up and put it in storage for the better part of a year, while the pandemic reeked havoc over most of the world. Since things have improved and life is slowly getting back to semi-normal, Squid announced a huge batch of dates, making up for the lost time spent in lockdown. Starting in July, gigging around the UK until around October when they start off for Europe and then head over to the States until the end of November and then pick up again starting in March of 2022.

There are several dates in New York as well as L.A., so it might be a good idea to check them out and join the human race for a couple of hours.

In the meantime, have a listen to this session recorded for Marc Riley at BBC 6 Music and stand by for more.
