– CBS Radio Hourly News – November 15, 1991 – Gordon Skene Sound Collection –
An interesting day all around. this November 15th in 1991. With word coming down of reversals on the sentences of key Iran-Contra players from the court, rendering convictions of such figures as Admiral John Poindexter moot, it would seem the whole fiasco over the Iran-Contra affair was neatly filed under the heading “Pardon Me”.
I don’t think anyone caught this as much of a surprise, and considering how the fortunes might go for the Party in power in 1992, this just seemed as good a time as any to sweep everything under the rug as quickly as possible.
But the other piece of news that ended the day was the quick nosedive the Stock Market took – ending out the week below 3,000. Since it started out 1991 at a little over 2,600, the sudden drop was passed off as a “correction”. Whether or not this was the harbinger of things to come was something many analysts speculated over.
But all that would remain to be seen.
And that’s just a bit of how this particular Friday rolled in 1991. The one that also happened to be a November 15th, as presented by CBS Radio’s Hourly News and a report from The Wall Street Journal.
