November 23, 1995 – Theoretically a slow news day, since it was Thanksgiving and all. But no, the world still turned and events still happened and life went on in its own inimitable way.

On this day, President Clinton was getting ready to make the sales pitch over the coming days to the American people to send troops to Bosnia. On the other hand, Bosnian diplomats were concerned that die-hard Bosnian Serbs were going to attempt to stage an incident as a way of sending a message to Congress that troop deployment wasn’t going to be such a good idea and thereby refusing to send peace-keeping troops to join other United Nations troops in the region. But with a detachment of U.S. troops already in Bosnia as part of a 60,000 strong UN Peacekeeping force, threats seemed like a moot point this Thanksgiving morning.

Meanwhile, the search for missing Model Linda Sobek was turning into a murder investigation as fingers were pointing in the direction of the photographer who was last seen with her and who attempted suicide shortly after her disappearance was reported. Personal items belonging to Sobek were found on a mountain highway east of Los Angeles and her car was found in Torrence, more than 20 miles south. First inspection didn’t turn up anything unusual but now the car was going to go over a more thorough look-over for clues.

And Rogue Trader Nick Leeson, who allegedly helped collapse Britain’s Barings Bank, was back in custody and on his way to Singapore to face fraud charges over that collapse. The infamous Rogue Trader was expected to receive far less prison time than the 14-year maximum under Singapore law. Some legal experts were claiming he could spend less than 12 months in prison. Leeson lost over $1 billion of Baring’s money in illegal trading.

And that’s a small slice of what happened, this November 23rd in 1995 (Thanksgiving that year) as presented by the CBS World News Roundup.
