Keeping it local, festive and homegrown this week. Another friend (who is very much with us), Roger “Hurricane” Wilson and his ode to the Holiday season; “On This Christmas Night” which he wrote and put together for the Yule season this year. Roger has been around a lot, doing a lot as well as performing and collaborating with a veritable who’s who of Rock and Blues legends and notables.
To get you acquainted, here’s a taste of Roger’s bio, so you know:
Roger “Hurricane” Wilson is an American electric blues guitarist, singer/ songwriter. He has also worked as a music educator, radio DJ, music journalist, and broadcaster. In addition, he has been an International Blues Challenge judge, as well as a 2015 Inductee into the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame, as a result of his 14 year association with the Dusk ‘til Dawn Blues Festival, and his work with Blues in the Schools in that state. He has released 27 albums. If you like guitar driven blues/ rock, fluid and intricate finger style guitar picking, fiery performances, and emotional songwriting, you are at the right place. With over 45 years of teaching guitar lessons to beginners and advanced players alike, and over a million miles under his belt, Roger “Hurricane” Wilson has made his own mark on the music world. The legendary Les Paul once said about Roger, “This guy plays some great blues.” Atlanta treasure Francine Reed stated that, “Roger “Hurricane” Wilson is a force to be reckoned with.”, having shared the stage with such notable artists as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Dickey Betts, Jorma Kaukonen, Charlie Musselwhite, and many more. Roger “Hurricane” Wilson is just getting started.
Like a lot (most) musicians, there’s been a lack of live playing opportunities this past year or so. And by the looks of it, with the current grim predictions, clubs and concerts may be on hold again this coming year. So with that in mind – the least you can do is show a little love and support and head over to Roger’s website and grab up some goodies. You can also fall by his YouTube page and show your support that way.
In any case – do what you can to keep music alive and kicking during this weirdest of all possible times. A world without music is pretty unimaginable.
Enjoy!
