Continuing with our Local, homegrown and festive look at Christmas; tonight it’s Pat Troise and her song A Child’s Christmas which she wrote a couple years ago (which I had posted sung by another artist) and which still keeps the Holiday spirit alive and in true spirit of the season; thoughtful and reflective.
Pat is a very talented writer – I know this for a fact because I’m married to her, and have been for a number of years. We’ve weathered many storms together along with a multitude of sunny days; it’s what people who share lives do. Pat’s lived a lot, she’s seen a lot and she’s observed a lot – all the ingredients for good songwriting – good for any kind of writing, for that matter. And, not that I’m partial, she has a way with words that is spot-on at conveying an atmosphere of place and time, something that’s essential in any creative endeavor. She’s good at it.
She also has a trunkful of songs, and like anyone bitten by the bug and compelled to express, she writes a lot and takes copious notes. She’s taking this thing seriously and she’s slowly getting the word out.
This has been a trying time for everyone – the lockdown last year put a damper on so much and has certainly put everyone in a reflective if not somber mood. Without heading in the direction of maudlin or over-the-top, Pat has taken the essence of the human spirit, the spirit that maybe sees too much and feels too much and has achieved a level of weariness we’re not normally accustomed to and come out the other end – the other end that says it all works out, it’s all going to be okay – that’s the holiday spirit, that’s what Pat has managed to do.
But don’t take my word for it – hit the play button and have a listen.
It’s Christmas after all.
