Brian Poole and The Tremeloes, recorded live in Stockholm by Swedish Radio on December 29, 1963. Oddly enough, it wasn’t until a few years later, in 1966 after Brian Poole left The Tremeloes, that the band achieved substantial success with a string of hits both here and in the UK. Even though they had chart success starting in 1963 with their version of Twist and Shout.
But it was Brian Poole and The Tremeloes who were one of the vanguard British Invasion bands that started to make a stir on these shores, beginning in 1963. It was ironic that Decca Records (UK) opted to sign The Tremeloes over The Beatles in 1962.
At the time of the split in 1966, most in the business and the Press assumed The Tremeloes would fade into history while Brian Poole would go on to achieve greater success. The opposite happened, and after a few releases going nowhere, Poole retired briefly from the business before starting his own label in the 1970s.
But as a reminder that the British invasion was a lot of bands and the period from 1963 through 1966 was something of an embarrassment of riches for the music fan, here is one of those bands who provided some of the backbone to an extraordinary time.
