It’s March 1977 – You’re A Teenager – You Live In L.A. – You Are Very Popular – Everybody likes You, Except . . . .

That one person . . .
You don’t know why – you don’t know who she is, but she hates you.

March 11, 1977 – KTNQ – The Real Don Steele – Rob Frankel Collection –

There’s that ONE person. No matter who you are or where you go or how many people like you, think fondly of you, wish they were you, envy you, want to name their children after you, love you – there’s that ONE person who despises you, hates the ground you walk on and doles out hate-stares like confetti. One person. You don’t know who she is, have had maybe two classes with her during your entire three years in school. You don’t even remember her name.

But for some reason she hates you. And that bothers you – it’s kept you up nights. Not that you haven’t come up to her and asked what her problem is – she won’t tell you. She mumbles, turns around and walks away.

Your friends tell you it’s nothing – she’s insane and you can’t do anything about it. You think its creepy and you don’t understand. That ONE person, out of the entire student body of Fairfax High – along with parents, teachers and bus drivers. You were voted “most popular” every year since 10th grade, but not her.

Deep-down, you want people to like you – you want everyone to like you, even people you don’t know. It’s important – to you, anyway. Not to everybody. Your Social Studies Teacher labelled you a “people pleaser”. You aren’t quite sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing – all you know is; your life would be perfect if that one person who stared at you all the time, just stopped it.

But it ain’t gonna happen – you tried. Life is strange – people are stranger – being 16 is the strangest of all.

Nobody warned you. Life is mysterious – get used to it.

And while you’re contemplating, here’s an hour or so’s worth of The Real Don Steele as he sounded, holding court over Ten-Q on March 11, 1977.
