Miles Kane in concert tonight. Recorded live at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in 2013. Miles Kane is best known as a solo artist and the co-frontman of the Last Shadow Puppets. He was also the former frontman of the Rascals, before the band announced their break-up in August 2009.
He is currently pursuing a solo career, and continues to be a part of the Last Shadow Puppets with Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner. His debut solo album, Colour of the Trap, was released on 9 May 2011 and the follow-up, Don’t Forget Who You Are was released on 3 June 2013. His third solo album, Coup De Grace, was released on 10 August 2018 via Virgin EMI. His latest solo album, Change the Show, was released on 21 January 2022 through BMG Rights Management.
Miles Kane initially emerged as lead singer of the short-lived outfit the Rascals before coming to wider recognition as one-half of the Baroque pop duo the Last Shadow Puppets alongside Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner. The duo’s 2008 debut, The Age of Understatement, earned them acclaim, including a Mercury Prize nomination. As with that project, Kane’s solo albums, like 2011’s Colour of the Trap, 2013’s Don’t Forget Who You Are, and 2018’s Coup de Grace (all of which hit the Top 20 in England), reveal his longstanding love of artists like T. Rex’s Marc Bolan, David Bowie, and Paul Weller, albeit with his own literate eye for the details of modern life. He explored its vibrantly timeless sound on 2022’s Change the Show.
For a long time considered something of a well-kept secret, Miles Kane is breaking out of that pigeon hole and looking to get his message across to a wider audience. All signs point to that happening, and even though this show is from 2013, it gives you a pretty good idea of what Miles Kane is all about. And that’s a lot.
