Shiva The Destructor – Live at Robust Evening, Kharkiv – May 29, 2021 –
Continuing the exploration of Ukraine’s music scene tonight. Shiva The Destructor are a prog/psych band from Kyiv and were mentioned by other bands as one of the up-and-comers to listen to. Formed in 2012, Shiva the Destructor cite a number of prog bands of the 70s as inspirations, and it shows. But rather than direct-copy, the influences are a stepping off point and they infuse it all with their distinctly East-European vibe.
Their latest album. Find The Others (which I think is their debut) came out in March of 2021, right smack in the middle of the COVID pandemic which hasn’t been as much a deterrent as you’d imagine. This performance is from a series of shows called Robust Evening in Kharkiv, and by the looks of it, some social distancing was present.
Of course, the irony is coming out of a pandemic and straight into a Russian invasion – talk about not cutting a break. Their Facebook page shows photos of a bombed out neighborhood and a missile attack somewhere. They have also posted this message from February:
