A compelling abrasive shoegaze band, dealing with the aesthetics of contrasting sounds.
Heavy like a gloomy dream yet soothingly vibrant.
The vulnerable soft floating voice of Manchester’s Isa Holliday underneath layers of grungy shoegaze soaked noisepop, seeking shelter from a f’ed up world.
They’ve been around for a comparatively short period of time, getting started in 2017 – at the core of Slow Crush is Isa Holliday, who offers the breathy, ethereal forever-floating voice over the proceedings.
They have two albums to their credit so far. Their second album, Hush came out in October of 2021, right in the middle of the Pandemic which severely curtailed a lot of plans and tours, including a last minute U.S. tour – all of which had to be cancelled.
It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as much of the downtime was spent concentrating on Hush, and judging the overwhelmingly positive response, the lockdown was well worth it.
As soon as restrictions started to lift, the band got back into motion, making up for lost time and they’ve been pretty much constantly on the road since last December, having finished up the U.S. leg of the tour, building a solid fanbase along the way.
I think it’s safe to say Slow Crush have a much anticipated bright future ahead of them. Further evidence Shoegaze never really got lost or sidelined. Bands like Slow Crush are keeping it just as important and vital as ever.
