Steve Winwood – live in Lugano – Estival Jazz Lugano 2013 – Plazza della Riforma – July 4, 2013 – RTS-Radio Switzerland –

Steve Winwood in concert tonight. Live at Estival Jazz Lugano 2013 in Lugano Switzerland on July 4, 2013 and preserved for posterity by RTS-Radio in Switzerland.

Steve Winwood is one of the handful of Artists whose work has stayed fresh for many decades and whose distinctive voice may have dropped a key or two but it’s the same voice and you can’t mistake it. Steve Winwood has no imitators. He was the epitome of Blue-Eyed Soul when he was a teenage member of The Spencer Davis Group. The hits that group turned out have achieved a level of immortality and I don’t think a day goes by where “I’m A Man” isn’t playing somewhere (lately, not a supermarket or TV commercial – yeah, we’ve come to that).

And his post-Spencer Davis endeavors have been equally if not more memorable – Traffic and Blind Faith have become touchstones in the canon of 60s anthems. And it certainly wouldn’t have been the 60s without them.

And after five decades there hasn’t been any sign of slowing down or even resting on laurels. And this isn’t to sound like a Press release, but Steve Winwood’s music has always been honest and sincere – everything he’s done has rung true; no wasted notes, no frivolous words – he’s a well-deserved legend.

And to get some idea of just how much of a legend – sit down and crank this concert from Lugano up and stick around for the next 90 minutes – totally worth it.

No lie.
