The Velvet Hands – In Session – 2022 – Past Daily Soundbooth

The Velvet Hands – Good word of mouth – in fact, insanely good word of mouth.

The Velvet Hands – in session for John Kennedy – Radio X – August 26, 2022 – Radio X – London –

The Velvet Hands in session for John Kennedy at Radio X and broadcast live on August 26, 2022. Lots of great word of mouth is surrounding this band, with all sorts of comparisons.

Such as this blurb:

With various comparisons to an “early Rolling Stones”, brand new Cornwall / London rockers, The Velvet Hands are, according to feedback “a wonderful mess, a soundtrack for demolition.” (Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music) with “snarling vocals and intense riffs” (GigSlutz) that is “full of bolshy spirit.” (NME). Very much looking and sounding the part, they encompass elements of The Strokes in their Garage rock n roll story telling. There is swagger in their tunes but sufficient depth in what they’re saying to be taken seriously. They may be fresh faced, but these are not nursery rhymes.

And this one:

Part of Cornwall’s blistering garage-rock scene, and now a focal point of London’s underground guitar scene, the band are subjects of considerable radio support; Steve Lamacq, Radcliffe & Maconie, Sarah Gosling, Tom Robinson, Amy Lame at 6 Music, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggert, John Kennedy.

Of new single Holiday In My Head, guitarist Dan said: “It’s based on our own experience of the doldrums of being skint, working your arse off to be able to afford a postage stamp sized flat, only to have to shave in the kitchen sink because the landlord won’t fix the one in the bathroom. Take that and then put it in lockdown, it felt like the walls were closing in – very claustrophobic. You can’t escape to anywhere apart from your own daydreams. The song is an anthem of escapism in the modern era”.

The arrival of Covid saw the band hard at work writing new material. They released a single “When This Is Over” to raise money for The Music Venue Trust and released a 4 track EP in 2021. Their second album is scheduled for release later in 2022, the first single from it is due for release in the late Spring of 2022. The Velvet Hands finished 2021 with sold out gigs in their home town of Truro, Newquay and London’s Old Blue Last with close to sold out gigs in Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester.

The band have been invited to play Michael Eavis’ Pilton Party on June 11th, they play The Social London on June 16th with a secret gig yet to be announced. They also play Boardmasters Land of Saints stage on August 12th and numerous smaller festivals.

‘Nuff said – now crank it up.
