Charles Watson tonight – if the name sounds familiar it could mean you were a fan of The Surfing Magazines, a band Watson was a member of from 2017 until leaving a year later to go solo. But there was also his collaboration with Rebecca Taylor as The Slow Club from 2006 until 2017 when Surfing Magazines appeared.

Watson started Slow Club in Sheffield in 2006 with the intent of combining elements of folk and ’60s pop with indie rock and twee pop. The duo put out two 7″ singles via Moshi Moshi Records in 2007 before following up with their debut EP, Let’s Fall Back in Love in 2008, and first full-length Yeah, So? in 2009. Watson and Slow Club returned with their sophomore effort, Paradise, in 2011 and followed with three more releases.

Charles Watson’s current album ‘YES’ finds the songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist presenting a sound that best expresses who he really is. Largely stripped back to warmer, more intimate productions, it’s also a record that matches its serene confidence with radiate positivity.

Here’s a chance to dive in and hear what all the fuss is about.
