Pale Blue Eyes in session tonight – with their debut album, Souvenirs out as of September 2 and their signed eco-mix vinyl pressing already sold out, you get the feeling there are a lot of people keeping an eye out for this band.

And for good reason, Pale Blue Eyes is a recent addition to the pages of Rock, having formed only in 2020.

Led by husband-and-wife team Matt and Lucy Board, the band also includes bassist Aubrey Simpson, whom the couple met through Sea Change, a small but highly regarded annual music festival in their hometown. Recording out of an analog home-built studio in Matt’s mother’s house, the trio completed their debut single in 2020, then engaged the town’s bustling creative business scene to help put it out. As a result, Pale Blue Eyes’ 2021 7″ single “Motionless/Chelsea” was sponsored by a local independent brewery (which also brewed a Pale Blue Ale), a company that helps build mushroom farms, and a forward-thinking funeral home with ties to the KLF. This type of collaboration and community engagement is part of what makes the band’s approach unique.

With a lot of radio support behind them, in the form of Radio X and BBC 6 Music, Pale Blue Eyes are in the midst of kicking off a tour which should bring them closer to a larger audience. It’s all pointing up to a healthy future. And to get yourself acquainted, here’s a 16 minute sampling via their session date with John Kennedy at Radio X just last weekend.

Enjoy.
