Jemma Freeman And The Cosmic Something – Radio X – John Kennedy – Ex-Posure – April 28, 2023 –

Jemma Freeman and The Cosmic Something – recorded live in session at Radio X for John Kennedy this past Friday, April 28th.

Known previously for their song writing with dreamy psych band Landshapes (Bella Union) Jemma has tinged Cosmic Something with energetic glam rock. Lush guitar tones and introspective psychedelic lyrics bound together with unbounded energy. Colliding themes of secret worlds, hidden agendas, apathy and anxiety, Jemma’s sonorous voice tells a story of unravelling completely and tying yourself back up again.

Three piece power trio Jemma Freeman and The Cosmic Something are joyous outsiders, the songs either overtly or indirectly demonstrate solidarity with others that identify with feeling off kilter with the rest of the universe. An introspective journey through psychedelic glam-rock nightmares, woozy flows of self-discovery and beguiling lyrics delivered with subtlety and intensity. Jem is your guide in this strange country, illuminating a path for you, in reality they’re as lost as the listener. In this hinterland, thoughts tumble on top of each other and the shadows cast by their own images overwhelm

Following from their Italian tour and sold out 2019 album The Cosmic Something are currently back in the studio putting the finishing touches to their hotly anticipated (Covid delayed) second full length LP due for release Spring 2022.

Jemma Freeman is proudly Autistic and nonbinary. They can be heard as the guitarist and songwriter in Bella Union band, and on tracks by Lost Horizons,Fran Lobo and Your Heterosexual Violence.

Jemma’s solo material adds a fizzing energy and almost glam-stomp to proceedings, creating a sound that flips rapidly between lush guitar work and rapid fire energy, all topped by Jemma’s sonorous vocal, part Kate Jackson part PJ Harvey.” – For The Rabbits “Jemma Freeman & The Cosmic Something bring an artful mix of glam rock theatrics, spacious psych explorations and crunchy earl-PJ Harvey style alt rock.” – Joyzine
