Cassia – Indie with a Tropical Twist. It’s possible . . .

Cassia – in session for John Kennedy’s X-Posure program – Radio X – August 25, 2023 – Radio X, London –

Cassia to start the week. In session for John Kennedy at Radio X and recorded live on August 25th.

Rich Wilson from AllMusic has a few choice words to say about the band:

“Exotic, tropical indie pop is not what you expect from the north of England, but Macclesfield-based three-piece Cassia bring elements of African and world music into their own brand of British indie rock.

Formed in the market town of Macclesfield by Rob Thomas (vocals, guitar), Lou Cotterill (bass), and Jacob Jeff (drums), the three-piece took inspiration from Thomas’ childhood. Growing up in Zambia, he was exposed to West African music and in particular his grandfather’s eclectic record collection. Inspired by the likes of Vampire Weekend and Bombay Bicycle Club as much as Fela Kuti and Ebo Taylor, the group started to play a blend of Mancunian indie pop, fused with elements of African and world music. 2016 saw the trio deliver their first singles — “Moana,” “Paradise Beach,” and “100 Times Over” — building a solid fan base through constant gigging and word of mouth for their energetic live shows. The EP Movers and Shakers followed in 2018 before the band signed to Distiller Records. The first fruits of their debut LP also came out that year, with re-recorded versions of some of their earlier material, on their debut album, Replica, released in early 2019″

A stripped-down incarnation of Cassia – nonetheless, a soothing dose of Tropical Pop as only Radio X could pull it off. Crank it up and enjoy – the week is here.

And while you’re here . . .you know we don’t run ads – stopped running them more than a few years ago. The ads were noisy and pretty awful and they were a huge distraction, having to wade through a lot of useless barking in order to get to the good stuff. But we still have to pay the bills, and there’s a ton of them and they don’t like to wait. And so we ask you consider becoming a subscriber and support all the stuff we do every day by kicking in what amounts to being an Americano Grande every month to be part of the solution and not the problem. In todays bizarre economy it ain’t much – but it means a ton to Past Daily. All you have to do (and we make this as simple and pain-free as possible) is head over to Patreon (that red box just below that says “Become A Patron” that you click on) and check us out. You can do 7 days free just to kick the tires and take a test drive. And if you like us, hit the subscribe button and become part of our rather haywire little family. Not bad, considering we just want you to like us.
