New Music from this side of the Atlantic this weekend. CR and The Nones are a New Jersey group fronted by Chris Gennone who also produced the album. The Ghosts Are Coming Home is the fifth album released between 2016 and 2018 which also includes material under Gennone’s former band CR And The Degenerates. This is album #2 from The Nones incarnation.

Cut from much the same cloth as Kurt Vile, War On Drugs, Van Chamberlain and Wild Pink, CR And The Nones is a band of top-notch musicians, making music that is repeat-listen worthy, with each playing offering new discoveries of what is a distinct point of view. Gennone more than proves himself a capable and far-sighted producer of vision. Part of the attraction of this album are not only the songs, which are well crafted, but also the musicians who play seamlessly as one unit which Gennone puts together in a way that makes it all sound effortless.

I have expressed some concern over the direction American Alt/Indie has been taking of late – getting a bit nervous that bands are stuck in pause and morphing each others sounds. Not so with CR And The Nones. One of the big selling points, especially to me, was the fact they are blazing their own trail and looking for different avenues of inspiration for their work. And despite my earlier references to Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs and others, Chris Gennone has sculpted a band that offers something different.

The three tracks I’m putting up tonight are 1. The Long Game – 2. The Bridge and 3. Concessions – they should give you a pretty good idea of what CR and The Nones are all about. It’s a strong album from start to finish and I think this is something you need to add to your collection – just sayin’. You can accomplish that by heading over to bandcamp and picking up this one as well as the others from Chris Gennone’s discography.

In the meantime, press play and enjoy:
