Scott Weiland – Live At Center Stage, Atlanta – January 19, 2009 – Hoarders Productions

Sad and sudden news tonight regarding former Stone Temple Pilots‘ Scott Weiland, who was found dead earlier this evening in the tour bus outside the Medina Ballroom, where he was scheduled to play with his new band The Wildabouts.

According to sources at TMZ, Weiland was found by band members shortly before 9 pm (PST) unconscious and unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Since it’s a developing story, details are sketchy – but one thing that’s clear is that Scott Weiland is gone and he had been battling addiction for a long time. And by the sounds of it, addiction won. Scott Weiland was 48.

So by way of tribute and a remembrance of who has just left so quickly and without notice, I ran across this concert from 2009, featuring Scott Weiland in concert at Center Stage in Atlanta. I wanted to find something from the current tour and perhaps something will turn up in the next few days, but at the spur of the moment, this will have to do.

To be the bearer of sad tidings (I am sure many of you on the East Coast or in Europe won’t hear about this until later on this morning), and to make the shock and sadness a little less intense, here is that concert – and a 99 minute reminder of the wonderful talent who crossed our paths – and whose demons were just a little too formidable and whose end is just a little too familiar and a little too frequent to do anything but shake our heads and sadly understand.

RIP Scott Weiland (1967-2015). Here is that concert from January 19, 2009 at Center Stage, Atlanta. Light a few candles, say a few prayers – tell the people close to you that you love them. It all just goes so quickly – so unannounced, so unnecessary.
