In celebration of Dr. King Day, and as a reminder of that man who walked the walk as well as talked the talk, here is a press conference Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King gave in suport of a demonstration outside the Santa Rita Rehabilitation Center, which was holding several arrested Anti-Vietnam War demonstrators, on January 14, 1968.
Not one of the major addresses, or sermons – not one of the famous Massey Lectures given at the CBC in Canada, but a simple Press Conference as part of an appearance Dr. King made in support of jailed protesters and the cause of Human Rights.
That non-violent protest to injustice extended to all facets of society – not just Civil Rights, but the rights of all people, no matter the color or circumstances, gave further proof of the enduring quality and all-encompassing legacy of Dr. King.
And even in small ways, the power was there.
Here is that Press Conference, originally broadcast by Pacifica Radio on January 14, 1968.
