Naming a band after an oil spill may not be the best thing . . .but what's in a name?

With the huge success of French Indie/Alternative band Phoenix this year, it’s put a light on what other bands are currently happening in France. One of those bands, around about as long as Phoenix, are Parisians Exsonvaldes. Inspired by the infamous oil spill, Exsonvaldes have been around since 2001, had their debut album in 2004 and have been gathering a good word of mouth and audience following around France and Europe ever since.

I first heard about them via MySpace in 2006, when they were building up an audience. Seven years later, and with a new album out since March, they’ve grown as a band and are poised to set their sights for more places, hopefully the U.S. in the coming months.

For now, it’s a set done just two days ago for Radio Nacional España’s Los Conciertos de Radio 3 in Madrid.

Unlike Phoenix, they break their set up between English songs and French songs. But their sound is what gets the interest level going.

I suspect there’s a lot more where this came from, and France may be a hotbed of new Indie/Alternative bands.

I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out their site and listen to what else they’ve got – and pick up a copy of Lights while  you’re at it.
