Last week I ran the BSO rehearsing the first two movements of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony Number 6 (Pathetique), broadcast on December 19, 1949. Apparently, it was so popular that NBC Radio convinced the orchestra to rehearse the last two movements a few weeks later. According to the narrator, Olin Downes, it was scheduled to be on the program for the BSO tour, so why not rehearse it again?

So if you heard last week’s rehearsal, this is the companion to that one. Not the complete symphony as always, but a rehearsal broadcast within the confines of the 30 minutes allowed. Glass is half empty – glass is half full.
