More sad news from the Music world today. Word of the passing  earlier this morning, of Soul legend Percy Sledge, after a long illness and at the too-young age of 73.

If he didn’t leave behind a legacy of Soul classics, he would still be best remembered as the man who gave the world that 60s Soul Anthem When A Man Loves A Woman.

But Percy Sledge was a brilliant artist with a long career – and now he’s gone.

As a reminder of his greatness, especially early on – here is a concert he performed in South Africa in May of 1970. A controversial concert, to be sure. But one which, even in its controversy, came with a unifying message which broke through a barrier, no matter how brief.

But it’s the Music and the Man; here and now.

RIP Percy Sledge – your voice and your music will be with us always.
