Good Morning TV – live session for Géographie Records, Paris – 2020 –

Something special tonight – a live/promotional session featuring Good Morning TV, a new band out of Paris getting ready to release their debut album in June. It was taped last year, right in the middle of quarantines and social distancing.

Actually, Good Morning TV aren’t entirely new – they’ve been together for a few years and had their debut single in 2016. But with the current state of confusion along with fits-and-starts, their debut album Small Talk is coming out officially on June 18th.

In a short period of time they’ve gotten extremely good press and a lot of excitement over their upcoming release.

Here’s a short blurb from their label Géographie to give you some background:

Good Morning TV started in 2016 with a first self titled EP, released by pop diggers Requiem pour un Twister, that managed to echo until miles away from their homeland, France.
At the time a solo adventure of Bérénice Deloire, the project progressively became a band as Barth Bouveret (producer for both the EP and the album), Thibault Picot (Brace! Brace!) and Hugo Dupuis joined their forces, guided by mutual harmony.
After two years of writing together, the quartet isolated itself in a peaceful home of the south of France in order to achieve their first album « Small Talk » to be released on Géographie Recs (Marble Arch, Paper Tapes, Born Idiot). « Small Talk » is born in this rough temporary studio, that rather resembled a weird laboratory. Its singular material, along with a contemporary production that both enhance a bold songwriting are casually passed by familiar choruses. With this record, Good Morning TV paints a melancholic portrait of daily disillusions and claims its own vision of pop, somewhere between Broadcast, Deerhoof or The Olivia Tremor Control.

Favorable comparisons in tone and vibe to Stereolab, Tame Impala and Melody’s Echo Chamber, but are very much their own band with their own vision.

I would most definitely head over to their Bandcamp site and pre-order the album and grab a pre-release taste to tide you over.

A very good band that you need to be aware of, particularly if Dreamscape and Indie are your go-to genres.

I predict repeated playings – dive into this live set to get an idea what’s in store.
