Keeping the holiday spirit roaring along in the homegrown, local and festive vein, Mustangs Of The West with their new single, a cover of The Pretenders 1983 hit 2000 Miles just in time for Christmas.

Three years ago I ran another Mustangs Of The West Christmas song; Everybody Wants Peace On Earth. We were celebrating the fact that the band got back together after a 20 year hiatus. When they took a break they were regarded as one of the best West Coast all-female New Country/Cowpunk/Modern Americana bands on the L.A. scene. Since getting back together they’ve released a new album, Time which has been given a big critical thumbs-up as well as selling quite nicely and keeping the word-of-mouth going, making new fans and warming the hearts of die-hards alike.

This time around they’ve collaborated with esteemed Canadian record producer/engineer Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris) at the iconic Henson Recording Studios (formerly the historic A&M Records studios) as well as having a guest appearance by Rusty Young from the legendary band Poco on steel guitar. The result has been a huge leap forward for the band and could very well spell a breakthrough for the band in terms of getting word out far and wide.

Still very much in Los Angeles – still locals, and the same band we’ve all known and loved since the 80’s, it’s always nice to see the ones who have worked so hard get the recognition they deserve. And believe me, they deserve it.

That’s not to say the pandemic hasn’t put the temporary brakes on things including a much-anticipated appearance at SXSW in 2020. Like many artists, they have taken the down-time and put it to good use and this single is welcome example.

They, like so many artists this past year, can certainly use a little love and a lot of support – fall on by their website and pick up Time and grab some of the goodies they are also offering to make the holiday season go a little brighter.

In the meantime, settle down and enjoy.
