Taking a short break from historic concerts this week and heading over to Frankfurt for a concert by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony conducted by Andres Orozco Estrada and featuring the brilliant German-Japanese violinist, Arabella Steinbacher, recorded last year.

It’s a widely balanced concert, featuring music by Haydn, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Eugène Ysaye and a premier by Friederich Cerha. It was recorded last February 7th at the Frankfurt Opera and relayed by Radio France Musique.

Since it’s over 90 minutes, it’s on two players – so here’s what’s what:
Concert donné le 7 février 2014, Grande salle de Concert de l’Opéra de Francfort

Symphonie en La majeur HOB I:59 “Fire” (Le Feu)

2. Serge Prokofiev (1891-1953)

3. Eugène Ysaye (1858-1931)
Sonate en La mineur – 1: Obsession (op.27, n°2, extrait) *

Part 2 (Bottom Player)

2.Serge Rachmaninov (1873-1943)

Arabella Steinbacher, violon *

A wonderful concert. Steinbacher handily proves why she is one of the bright stars on the musical horizon today.

Enjoy.
