Charles Munch and The Boston Symphony In Rehearsal – March 17, 1951 – Gordon Skene Sound Collection
Schubert in rehearsal this week. The Boston Symphony under Charles Munch along with soloists and Chorus rehearse Schubert’s Mass Number 2. As broadcast during their rehearsal of March 17, 1951.
Something of a first for the radio series, as the BSO hadn’t rehearsed a Choral work during a broadcast. This one features the choir under the direction of Arthur Fiedler, who was spirited away from his duties with the Boston Pops for this concert.
As always, not the complete work, but a half-hour fly-on-the-wall glimpse of the orchestra, and this time with chorus, at work on an upcoming performance piece.
Enjoy.
