Korean Indie (Math Rock) by way of Moashy and their debut ep Nemus – 1. Bloom 2. Mosaic 3. Glimmer 4. Time
Hearing so much about Kpop in recent years I was always curious if there was an Indie scene going on in Korea, or if it was just a rumor.
Turns out it’s not a rumor, it’s a fact. There is a thriving Indie scene, it’s just not getting all the publicity the slicker counterparts are. But it’s fertile ground and there are a lot of practitioners getting the message across.
One of them is Moashy, a bass player doing this side project, apart from her regular band Evenif.
Considered by most to be more Math Rock than Indie (although, let’s face it, it’s a relative like a first cousin), Moashy has put together a compelling debut ep, which I believe is available via YouTube Music.
Finding out more information, not only on Moashy by Evenif and the whole Korean Indie scene in general has been no easy task – but luckily, running across the best go-to site for this information is a site called KoreanIndie.com, which is blog, an archive, a list of reviews and a list of places to find out more – it’s kind of a portal for all things Korean Indie and it’s been invaluable. I would definitely bookmark the site and visit it often, it is updated weekly (I think ) and it’s loaded with useful information and, according to their About page, are on the constant lookout for more. Now, if they could only point us in the direction of the live gigs, the festivals and the radio sessions, life would be complete.
But in the meantime, reward your ears and your brain with a taste of Moashy – this is candidate for repeat listenings.
Enjoy.
