Maisie Peters in concert from Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on March 21, 2024 – recorded by the venerable Triple J radio.
When I ran a 2023 concert by Maisie Peters in December of that year, I made a prediction she’d become a household name in a very short time. Not that it means anything, but I was right; Maisie Peters has grabbed an audience that’s growing daily and her fans are growing exponentially. I can say that if you don’t know who Maisie Peters is by now, you are in the minority as she has established herself as one of the bright lights and guiding forces in the current music climate.
Further evidence that no matter how much you think the world is crashing and burning, there are points of light and rays of hope and it’s coming from Music – and that music (not in the mainstream) is getting very healthy and heading in directions we can only welcome with open arms.
I say not in the mainstream because, even though it’s the traditional well-oiled machine that attempts to dictate tastes to a mass audience, the audience is becoming aware there are whole other worlds out there at the tape of a screen. And thanks to streaming Radio (like BBC 6 Music in the UK and Triple J in Australia and RFI in Paris) it’s a veritable feast of new music that you can discover without really trying. And since commercial radio in the US is all but extinct, it’s a breath of fresh air to discover artists like Maisie Peters and ask yourself “where have I been?” to know you’re on to something good.
Maisie Peters is the tip of an immense and very healthy iceberg and its a huge relief to us all who have felt music left us behind a long time ago. The energy, message and vibe are there – as is the passion and the commitment. And she’s part of a growing legion of Women who are taking matters in their own hands and showing the world Music is pure expression – knows no gender, race, ethnicity or persuasion – it’s all Music has ever been and always will be.
Yep – stay away from the insanity and go where the positive energy and good vibes are – and keep an open mind about it.
Press Play and celebrate the weekend – all 48 hours worth.
