When I got word earlier today that Cruush’s second ep, Nice Things Now, All The Time was scheduled to drop on April 12, and that Bandcamp was getting inundated with pre-orders, I had to share this remarkable band with you, if you haven’t heard of them already.
Relatively new but steeped in the best of all possible traditions of Shoegaze and getting accolades from the press that Manchester has much to be proud of – one listen to these two tracks; one featuring the new single “Headspace” (which is the second track here) and the first track off of their first ep, Wishful Thinker, is the first track here.
Both are wonderful reminders that Shoegaze as a genre is far from dead – it was never dead in the first place – not even on life support – and that bodes well for 2024 as a year where the recurring ravages of two years in lockdown from COVID might finally be a thing of the past.
Not a tour, officially, but at least two upcoming gigs; one in Manchester and the other in London to support the release. Media support is huge right now – with everyone from Radio X to BBC 1 and 6 touting Cruush as one of the big discoveries of the year so far.
No word at all if anything vaguely resembling some US appearances are scheduled – although putting in a meet-and-greet at SXSW might work wonders. Still – a bright batch of notes from a band very much on the rise and a much anticipated ep with hopes an album can makes its way to our ears at some point soon.
