Further evidence the world is overflowing with new and interesting music. From the 2013 Marsatac Festival comes a gathering of musicians from Mali, supplemented by a few French participants in what is an intoxicating mashup of styles and vibes.
Fronted by guitarist Ahmed Fofana, along with Massaran Kouyate, Issa Bagayogo, Abubakar Koné and French musicians Matthew Pernaud and Hassan Boukerrou, this collective gathering brings together Hip-Hop, Electonica, Pop and sounds of Mali.
Recorded on October 2nd of this year, Mixatac Bamako may be a one-off experiment, or it may be a journey to new territories. Whatever the eventual outcome, here is a little under an hour of spellbinding music from another continent.
It might do you well to turn this one up – forget you may not be able to understand the words. It’s the feeling that counts.
And it overflows with that.
