Over to Madrid this week for a concert by Orquesta-Sinfonica de RTVE conducted by Adrés Orozco-Estrada and featuring Mariana Todorva, violin in the violin concert of Samuel Barber.
Also featuring Richard Strauss’ Macbeth and Leos Janacek’s Taras Bulba. The concert was broadcast live and recorded for Radio España Clasica on April 5, 2013.
Bulgarian violinist Mariana Todorova has performed as a soloist with various European orchestras conducted by Dafov, Kolarov, Keradjiev, Izquierdo, Fournet, García Asensio, Andreescu, Leaper, Encinar, Noseda, Ros Marbá and others. Her repertoire covers the period from baroque to contemporary music, including premieres of works dedicated to her by Bustamante, Cueva, Ruiz Pipó, Greco, Torres, Taverna-Bech.
Mariana Todorova has made numerous recordings for the Spanish Television and Radio. She performs on a regular basis at the most important festivals and chamber music cycles in Spain, and is regularly invited as concertmaster by the Real Filarmonía de Galicia.
In 2000 she performed in concert the violin concerto “Ardor” by José Luis Greco, dedicated to her, with the Symphony Orchestra of Gran Canaria. She also recorded this concert in CD for the ASV label. This disc has been selected “exceptional disc of the month” by the Scherzo magazine in December 2003 and became “Editor’s choice” of Gramophone Magazine in October 2003.
Mariana Todorova plays in a duo with pianist Irini Gaitani and is member of the “Modus” string trio since it was founded in 1997. The trio gave the first performance in Spain of Jean Françaix “Divertissment” for string trio and orchestra with the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid and José Ramón Encinar. She is the leader as well of the chamber music orchestra Madrid Soloists founded in the Spring of 1996, which is made up of the section leaders and players from the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra.
Andrés Orozco-Estrada is a Colombian violinist and conductor, with dual nationality in Colombia and Austria. He is the Principal Conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Designate of the Gürzenich Orchester and Cologne Opera. He was the music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony.
In June 2004, he first conducted the Tonkünstler Orchestra at a Vienna Festwochen concert, as a last-minute substitute. This led to his appointment as assistant conductor of the orchestra, a post he held for two years. Orozco-Estrada became principal conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchestra in 2009, a post he held until 2015. Earlier he served as principal conductor of the ensemble “recreation” Großes Orchester Graz and, from 2005 to 2007, as music director of Oper Klosterneuburg.
Orozco-Estrada first guest-conducted the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in May 2022. On the basis of this appearance, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra announced the appointment of Orozco-Estrada as its next principal conductor, effective October 2023, with an initial contract of three seasons.
