White House assault update: Formal charges were filed this day against Martin Durand, the Colorado man tackled in front of the White House after spraying the front of the building with assault weapon fire. Durand was charged with a Felon possessing a firearm, which carried a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. He was also charged with damaging Federal Property, which also carried a maximum 10 year sentence and a $10,000 fine. Durand was jailed in the Army on a felony aggravated assault conviction. The pock-marked White House, with at least 8 bullet holes was lined with yellow crime scene tape. No injuries in the shooting. Inspecting Durand’s pickup truck, parked close-by, a bumper-sticker; “Those that beat their guns into ploughs will plough for those who don’t”.
Meanwhile, a candle-light vigil in Union South Carolina for the boys missing since their mother’s Mazda was carjacked earlier in the week. It was the first of several candlelight vigils being held all over this South Carolina County for 3-year old Michael Smith and his brother Alex.
And the biggest controlled implosion ever took place earlier this day in Philadelphia. The massive Sears Roebuck building, which took eleven months to build in 1920, was reduced to rubble in less than 10 seconds.
And that’s just a little of what happened on this October 30, 1994 – a rather quiet Sunday even at the White House, considering, as reported by ABC Radio’s Hourly News.
