Happydaze in session to kick off the year and this new (hopefully nightly) feature – recorded at the Edinburgh Festival this past August and featured on BBC Scotland’s Introducing series a few weeks later.

Happydaze from Edinburgh, got started in 2020 after the breakups bands both vocalist Luke Bovill and drummer Pete Bunting were in, they formed the nucleus of Happydaze, adding Adam Campbell and Rory Gault-Gordon.

As luck, and world situations had it, Happydaze were in the middle of rehearsing and honing their sound when COVID came along and sent everything into lockdown. Under normal circumstances it would have been a disaster, but as it turned out, the fledgling band used that time in seclusion to work and record and to use the time writing and getting ready. Thanks to Zoom, a lot got accomplished, so by the time restrictions were relaxed and clubs started opening again, Happydaze were hitting the ground running.

The 16 hour days paid off as their debut ep, Underground Summer Sound came out in 2022 to great reviews. With the world opening up the band jumped straight into touring, playing their first headline shows in the UK to the fanbase they’d built during the previous year. This was swiftly followed into mainland Europe where Happydaze appeared for the first time as well as further UK shows in the year with Between You & Me and dates with ROAM. Alongside the band continued to build their audience and pick up media coverage at Rock Sound, Kerrang, Radio 1 Rock Show as well as Spotify editorial support at New Music Friday, All New Rock, Pop-Punk’s Not Dead and Misfits 2.0.

Their debut album is slated to come out in May and, judging from this gig at the 2023 Edinburgh Festival, and the enthusiasm they’re getting, 2024 is looking like a good year.

Check them out and head over to their site and load up of records and merch – they’ll love you for it.

In the meantime, crank it up and stay tuned.
