Making a quick U-Turn for lunch today with a set by the Bay area’s own Hot Laundry, recorded during Mosswood Meltdown 2024 on July 6th where they were opening band on the first day of the festival with the B-52’s as headliners.
Variously described as “The Warped Woodstock” and “An Asshole-Free Altamont”, Mosswood Meltdown has become a Bay area institution, owing much to the presence of John Waters as Festival mc and guiding light to this alternative festival at Mosswood Park in Oakland which has been described by KCBS as “one of the most entertaining two day Punk celebrations in the Bay Area”. Going full blast since 2013, the Mosswood Meltdown has become the showplace for local bands but it’s also been branching out in recent years. Evidence a good festival gets word-of-mouth.
In case you don’t already know . . .
Hot Laundry is a San Francisco outfit kicking out a fresh new take on our beloved rock n roll.
Lead singer Janette Lopez will help you forget your worries and have you howling at the moon by the end of the night.
Backed up by her always lovely backup singers and dancers. Ileath Bridges and Kate Juliana are 100% genuine rock n roll. Sending you back to the 1960s bad girl garage band days.
The band is dishing out hi-octane rock n roll with hints of Motown, revved up guitars in the vein of MC5, and a heavy dash of delta boogie.
Hot Laundry is serving up working class music. With lyrics reflecting hard work, hard times, love, and dancing all night. -Hot Laundry is rock n roll for your soul.
- Janette Lopez – Lead Vocals, Keys, Tambourine
- Grady Hord – Guitar, Vocals
- Kate Juliana – Backup Vocals, Percussion
- Ileath Bridges -Backup Vocals, Percussion
- Casey G. – Bass
- Arun Bhalla – Drums
And John Waters chimes in with a word or two:
“Ok I know some of these next gals and guys! The lead singer, Janette Lopez, has been helping me run the backstage for years here in Mosswood Park, but tonight she’s center stage and out front where she belongs. Joining her are some of my favorite Halloween hair-hoppers whose dashing style of punk elegance will turn this place into a paranormal Shindig, a spookhouse of hullaballoo! Can punk rock be feel good? You bet, and these beloved bad girls and grisly garage guys will give you a trick-ish treat like nobody else! Today, they’ll be doing their own songs plus cover three Sonics classics, and it’s gonna be atomic! They’re called Hot Laundry, and their talent never shrinks!”
So you got the sales pitch, now get a taste – (btw: word on the street says 2027 is going to be even more nuts than in previous years. So stay tuned!)
