Humour – live at The Barrowlands Festival 2024 in Glasgow – recorded October 12, 2014 as part of the Introducing series via BBC 6 Music.
Where would we be without the plethora of festivals going on, seemingly all year long? For one thing, running around to clubs listening to new acts would be a whole day – whole week – whole month situation. At least with festivals everyone is jammed into one place over a two day period and you got to overdose on new talent. No doubt there’s probably a bunch of no-talent taking up stages, but the BBC has a pretty keen ear for the good stuff, so they get to do the work those of us who would go screaming off an overpass don’t have to deal with.
Humour is one of those spot-on discoveries that gives the BBC Introducing program its creds. And The Barrowlands Festival in Glasgow has turned into a pretty sure bet a LOT of new talent is springing up. Further evidence we’re far from depleted in our Musical reserves.
Humour live together in Glasgow and formed across the 2021 lockdowns, writing and recording their material at home, with the music intended as a backdrop to Andreas’ lyrics. Sometimes they’re about letting people down, sometimes they’re about pets dying, sometimes they’re about trying to say something when you don’t have anything worth saying. They’re usually just trying to paint a picture, with singer-writer-frontman Andreas Christodoulidis drawing sketches to go along with each of their songs, including last year’s EP cover, and the artwork and visuals behind the lyric videos for previous singles.
They’ve already been to SXSW and have been hitting up all the festivals in Europe this past summer. Sadly, this is just a two-song sampler from the festival, but even two tracks are better than nothing and they definitely leave you wanting more.
Check them out – I’m sure I’ll be running a concert once I can find out. In the meantime it’s Humour at Barrowlands.
