Parquet Courts – Live At Fuji Rock Festival 2018 – July 27, 2018 – NHK-FM, Tokyo –
Parquet Courts in concert for a Friday Jr. Lunchroom.
Parquet Courts are an American Indie band from New York. Together since 2010 and have 7 albums out.
Band members Andrew Savage and Austin Brown met in Denton, Texas while both students at the University of North Texas, in a student club named Knights of the Round Turntable, where they listened to and shared new records. Andrew had a number of musical projects during college, including Teenage Cool Kids and Fergus & Geronimo. Andrew and brother Max Savage, Parquet Courts’ drummer, were both born and raised in Denton. The three relocated to Brooklyn after college and soon started Parquet Courts.
Needless to say, Parquet Floors have gotten extraordinarily good press in that time; one publication proclaiming them as “the best Indie band in America”. And clearly, their reputation isn’t confined to these shores, as was evidenced by the enthusiastic response from the Japanese audience in 2018.
I have to say, I’ve heard about the Fuji Rock Festival from previous years, but have heard very little in the way of concerts during that time. That NHK (the main Japanese Radio-TV network) ran the entire festival and made it available via streaming worldwide. Thats great and a very positive move, because the Festival was substantially represented by Japanese bands, it gave audiences over here and opportunity to check out what’s happening on that side of the Pacific. And I think it’s crucial that we know what everybody else is up to because there are a lot of interesting things going on – and certainly some different points of view to be exposed to. I will be posting some of the Japanese bands represented by the Festival in the coming weeks. Further proof Festival season is a world-wide thing and since we now have access as we’ve never had before, it’s something of an embarrassment of riches for fans. Doesn’t replace actually going to one – and you really need to, for no other reason than to be of support. But to have fingertip access to this much music is something that’s never happened before. And for that, I am over the moon.
Crank it up and relax – it’s Friday Jr. so you have time to prepare.
