It’s always a pleasure to hear The Band, whether it’s off an album or from a concert. They are one of those musical conglomerations you don’t get tired of listening to. Maybe it’s because of their no-frills approach to music – they are just a good, solid, tightly-knit organization who have made great music for a few decades and who were one of the most loved and respected bands working in the U.S. – of course, it helped they were Bob Dylan’s backup band. But clearly the man had good taste.
Sadly, The Band would go their separate ways a year after this concert (in 1977), but get back together in 1983 for a good long run until finally calling quits, after the death of founding member Rick Danko in 1999. The remaining members enjoyed success individually. And co-founder Levon Helm passed away in 2012, after a long bout with Cancer.
But here they are, at the top of their game, playing to a very appreciative audience (as most audiences at Band concerts were, if I recall), in 1976.
Enjoy and play loud.
P.S. – if you liked this concert and want to hear more, just scroll down. If you like Past Daily and like what we’re doing and want to help – now’s your chance to kick in a few bucks to make sure we keep preserving and running concerts like this in the future. Not asking for a lot (although a lot would be greatly appreciated and we would stop the fundraiser early), but give what you can, and tell your friends about Past Daily and share us on Facebook.
But if you’d like to kick in a few, here’s where you can do it:
